Shannon Mattern<\/strong> is associate professor in the School of Media Studies at The New School in New York. He\u00a0writing and teaching focus on archives, libraries, and other media spaces; media infrastructures; spatial epistemologies; and\u00a0mediated sensation and exhibition. She is\u00a0the author of\u00a0The New Downtown Library: Designing with Communities<\/i><\/a>;\u00a0Deep Mapping the Media City<\/i><\/a>; and\u00a0Code and Clay, Dirt and Data: 5000 Years of Urban Media<\/em><\/a>, all published by\u00a0University of Minnesota Press. She has\u00a0written several dozen journal articles and book chapters, and writes\u00a0a regular long-form column<\/a>\u00a0about urban data and mediated infrastructures for\u00a0Places<\/i>, a journal focusing on architecture,\u00a0urbanism, and landscape. She\u00a0contribute to public design and interactive projects and exhibitions, too. And from 2006 to 2009 she\u00a0directed the 600-student Graduate Program in Media Studies.<\/p>\n
