Dimitris Tigkas was born in Patras , Greece in 1982. He studied modern doublebass with Evgeny Bratushka at the Municipal Music School of Volos andthen with Vasilis Papavasiliou at the Hellenic Music School in Athens, where he graduated. From September 2006 he moved to Amsterdam where he studied the violone (historical double bass) with Maggie Urquhart . He gained a bachelor’s and a master’s in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He alsogained a bachelor’s in musicology from the University of Athens. He has played as a freelance musician in many orchestras, chamber music groups and electroacoustic ensembles. He is a member of the early music ensembles: Latinitas Nostra, Ex Silentio and Armonia Atenea and the Medea Electronique collective.
